Note: The LaGrange Standard newspaper listing for area churches did not include any listing for the congregation in 1953, after December 10th, which announced the schedule for Sunday, December 13th.  That was the last listing for several months that included a Sunday evening service.  The first listing of the congregation in 1954 (printed January 7th) shows no Sunday evening service for the congregation.  Either the congregation had no Sunday evening service, or the Sunday evening service just was not printed in the listing.  The newspaper listing continued to list all services, excluding a Sunday evening service, through the August 26, 1954 listing (for the Sunday of August 29th).  The September 2, 1954 listing (for the Sunday of September 5th) resumed publication of a Sunday evening service.

Note: The LaGrange Standard newspaper listing for area churches did not include any listing for the congregation on April 12, 1956, so the change to 8:00 pm might have occurred on 04/22/1956, rather than 04/15/1956.

Saturday Morning Children’s Bible Hour – On August 15, 1957, about a month after Paul W. Hosse moved to LaGrange, the LaGrange Standard began including a Saturday Morning Children’s Bible Hour for 10:30 am.  The newspaper listing for the congregation often included the weekly topic for Children’s Bible Hour.  The children started with Abraham and continued their study into the kings of Israel and Judah.

The congregation continued the Saturday Children’s Bible Hour every week at 10:30 am, until at least May 1960.  The newspaper listing included it through the publication of May 5, 1960, which would have been for Saturday, May 7th.  The May 12th publication omitted the Children’s Bible Hour.

Where the Church Met for the first 30 years

1944 - ???                                A LaGrange County congregation met on Sunday afternoons at the Plato United Methodist Church building

06/10/1953                              On Wednesday evening, the first meeting was held of the LaGrange congregation at the home of Paul and Alberta Sumney.  The Sumney house was at the northeast corner of Union Street and Detroit Street (State Road 9), where Stopher King Studio exists.

08/02/1953 – 09/16/1956        Meetings were held above Moore Store in downtown LaGrange.  During the winter of 1953/1954, the store changed to Yates Shoe Store.

09/23/1956 – current               Townline Road church building - During times of furnace troubles at Townline Road, the congregation met in the basement of the Albion Production Building at the corner of Union and Hawpatch Streets in LaGrange (arranged by Fred Cox) or at Dean Hoggatt’s house next to the LaGrange Motel (owned and operated by Dean) north of town.
